Section before plan

The building was designed in section first. Each floor steps back from the one below, which turns the roof of one apartment into the terrace of the next and gives the block its profile without any applied articulation.

Apartments run through the depth of the building, so every home has both a morning and an evening orientation. No unit is single-aspect.

A shared ground

Parking was pushed to the edge of the site and the centre kept open as a planted court. The concrete is board-marked at ground level and smooth above — a change made for the hand rather than the eye.
